The Grill Room at Down Hall Hotel

Located in Bishop's Stortford, on the border between Essex and Hertfordshire, the Down Hall Hotel is one of the UK's oldest, established country-house hotels. The Grill room has been recently refurbished and now sports Italian wood floors, dark wooden tables, red leather seating and the large windows make it very light and airy. The seasonal menu serves contemporary British food, including dishes such as salmon goujons with a pea and mint salad, Quorn and button onion stroganoff and steaks that are served with chips baked in goose fat. Three courses here cost an average of £31 per person.
